Introduction

Since 1983, ASA (American Sailing Association) has established and maintained a complete system of international standards for sailing training programs. It trains instructors and students, and continues to improve the system. Far East Boats introduced the ASA training system to China in 2012, and has established a number of training schools across the country. The ASA training and certifying center in Shanghai  provides training course and certification for 5 classes of keelboat.

Long History, Complete Training System

Since 1983, the ASA has established and maintained a complete training system for keelboats and continues improve it today with courses covering keelboats, multihulls, centerboards, radars, celestial navigation, weather, and docking.

Certification by Authorities Covering Wide Fields

More than 300 professional navigation schools are using the ASA system throughout the world. 85% of commercial navigation schools have adopted the ASA training system in America. The ASA certification is widely accepted by chartering companies and all branch training institutes of the ASA. More than 7,500 navigation instructors have been certified and more than 423,000 students have received ASA certification.

Advanced Training Concept and Humanization

The concept of ASA is that it is safe to sail at sea, easy to learn and enjoyable. We recommend easy-to-learn teaching methods, and explain profound theories in simple language. There is no complete sailing training system in our nation. However, it is critical for the safety of the crews sailing or navigating. Receiving any certification can avoid legal problems.

Coach

Hao Zhihong

Hao owns Yacht Driving License of People’s republic of China (A2E), the certificate of American Sailing Association (ASA101&103) and certificates of sailing/sailboard level 2 judge and Kayaking level 2 judge. She was graduated from the Marine College and majored in Yacht. She has been the referee of many sailing events such as Shanghai Citizens Games Regatta, the University Sailing Union Championship, Shanghai Youth Decathlon Series, the Youth Sailing Invitational Race, Shanghai Amateur Game, and Women's International Match Racing. She was the lead coach of the 9th Monaco OP Race China Trial. She also has the experience of 5 years’ sailing, 4 years’ sailing camp instructor and 1 year’s kayaking experiential camp instructor.

Xue Xin

Xue has the certificate of American Sailing Association (ASA101&103) and certificates of sailing/sailboard level 2 judge and Kayaking level 2 judge.. He has been teaching sailing for 4 years and have the qualification of Level 2 referee. She is served as an ASA assistant instructor. He graduated from the Marine College and majored in Yacht. and participated in Shanghai Citizens Games Regatta, the University Sailing Union Championship, Shanghai Youth Decathlon Series, the Youth Sailing Invitational Race, Shanghai Amateur Game, INTERNATIONAL OPTIMIST SAILING COMPETITION BETWEEN CHIAN, JAPAN, KOREA, SINGAPORE and Women's International Match Racing, etc. He has been a judge of several sailing events and an instructor of kayaking experiential camp for one year.

 

Yu Siwei

Yu has the certificate of American Sailing Association (ASA101&103) and certificates of sailing/sailboard level 2 judge. He has been teaching sailing for 3 years and served as a camp head coach and a keel boat captain, which forms him excellent piloting skills and vessel assembly ability. He communicates with children very well and can help them apply what they learned in practical operation; He is rigorous and responsible enough to be the pilot trusted by the parents. The child sailors in Haishang love him the best. He has rich experience in sailing competitions and has participated in Shanghai Citizens Games Regatta, the University Sailing Union Championship, Shanghai Youth Decathlon Series, the Youth Sailing Invitational Race, Shanghai Amateur Game, INTERNATIONAL OPTIMIST SAILING COMPETITION BETWEEN CHIAN, JAPAN, KOREA, SINGAPORE and Women's International Match Racing, etc

 

Courses

ASA 101 (Basic Keelboat)

Prerequisites: none

Description: Demonstrated ability to skipper a sloop-rigged keelboat of approximately 20 to 27 feet in length by day in light to moderate winds and sea conditions. No auxiliary power operation is required.

ASA 103 (Basic Coastal Cruising)

Prerequisites: ASA101

Description: Demonstrated ability to skipper a sloop-rigged auxiliary powered keelboat of approximately 25 to 35 feet in length by day in moderate winds (up to 20 knots) and sea conditions. Knowledge of cruising sailboat terminology, basic boat systems, auxiliary engine operation, docking procedures, intermediate sail trim, navigation rules, basic coastal navigation, anchoring, weather interpretation, safety and seamanship.

ASA 104 (Bareboat cruising)

Prerequisites: ASA101 / ASA103

Description: Demonstrated ability to skipper a sloop-rigged, auxiliary powered keelboat of approximately 30 to 45 feet in length during a multi-day cruise upon inland or coastal waters in moderated to heavy winds and sea conditions.

ASA 105 (Coastal Navigation)

Prerequisites: none

Description: Able to demonstrate the navigational theory required to safely navigate a sailing vessel in coastal or inland waters. There is no sailing skills part in this standard.

ASA 110 (Basic Small Boat Sailing)

Prerequisites: none

Description: Able to skipper a non-ballasted centerboard/daggerboard monohull or multihull sailboat of approximately 8 to 20 feet in length by day in light to moderate winds (up to 15 knots) and sea conditions. Knowledge of basic sailing terminology, sail trim, points of sail, crew responsibilities, seamanship and safety including capsize avoidance/recovery and navigation rules to avoid collisions.
