Shanghai 2016 OPTIMIST Championship Close Successfully

The Shanghai 2016 OPTIMIST Championship closed successfully in Shanghai Dishui Lake on 11th September. OPTIMIST, which is one of the most popular sailing dinghies in the world, with over 150,000 boats officially registered with the class, is the racing boat of this championship.Shanghai Far East Boats, as the world top OPTIMIST builder of ten years, supplied all the 104 racing boats of this event. More than 100 little sailors from all around Shanghai gave us an exciting sailing race, and show us the bright future of China sailing’s development.

The race is held in the early autumn from 9th to 11th September. Totally there are six rounds race, including five rounds of Olympic Course Race and one round Long Distance Race. And Wang Zhe, TuYukun and Wang Sihong won the overall champion, the second and the third of Olympic Course Race. For the Long Distance Race, Li Caiwei, Zheng Shijie and Zhou Ni won the overall Champion, the second and the third place respectively. Mrs. Demolar Du, president of Shanghai Sailing Club awarded prizes to the winners. And all the little sailors got certificates from the organizing committee.

During this event, many sailing activities on land are carried onto promote sailing culture among the public, including sailing knots teaching, OPTIMIST sailing experiencing and sailing puzzle games sponsored by China Maritime Museum. Many families are attracted by those games, even those little sailors and their parents. 

Shanghai Sailing Club is one of the event organizer, and the president Mrs. Demolar Du said, “Shanghai Sailing Club is sparing no efforts to build China’s own sailing race brand. By hosting and organizing youth sailing training and races, we can gain more experience, so that to promote the development of youth sailing education better. By enhancing sailing’s influence in the young generation, we wish everyone can have the opportunity to join sailing, to join us.”
